Descend into the world's largest intact caldera and cross the endless Serengeti plains on this signature Tanzania safari.
Tanzania holds two of the greatest wildlife theatres on the continent, and this itinerary is built to give you both properly, rather than rushing between them. The Ngorongoro Crater is a self-contained Eden — a collapsed volcanic caldera whose steep walls keep an entire ecosystem concentrated into a single, walkable-in-a-day floor. The Serengeti, by contrast, is defined by scale: horizon-to-horizon plains that host the single largest overland wildlife migration left on earth.
This is Moseville's most requested safari, and our own vehicle convoy and guiding crew run this exact route often enough that we've stopped treating it as a fixed script and started treating it as a living route — adjusted week to week based on where the herds actually are, not where a brochure says they should be.
You'll also spend time with the Maasai communities who share this land, not as a staged photo stop but as a real conversation brokered by guides who have relationships here that go back years. It's the part of the trip that tends to surprise guests most, because it wasn't the part they came for.
Days are long and full: two full game-drive days in the Serengeti alone, plus a full day on the Ngorongoro Crater floor, means this itinerary trades breadth for depth deliberately. You leave having actually spent time in these ecosystems, not just passed through them.

Day By Day
Route: Arusha → Lake Manyara → Ngorongoro Crater → Serengeti National Park → Arusha
Day 1 | Arrive Arusha
Land at Kilimanjaro International and transfer to a lodge at the foot of Mount Meru, its lower slopes visible from the garden if the cloud lifts. This first evening is deliberately unrushed: a briefing over dinner covers what to expect from the week ahead, kit checks, and the loose logistics of a week that will mostly run on its own momentum from here.
Day 2 | Lake Manyara National Park
Drive to Lake Manyara, a compact, underrated park squeezed between the Rift Valley escarpment and the lake itself. It's known for its tree-climbing lions — a local quirk of behaviour rarely seen elsewhere — and for birdlife dense enough that even guests with no particular interest in birds tend to leave with a few names memorised. The escarpment backdrop makes for some of the best game-drive photography of the entire week.
Day 3 | Ngorongoro Crater Descent
Descend roughly 600 metres onto the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater, a collapsed volcanic caldera that concentrates an entire ecosystem — lion, elephant, black rhino, hippo pods stacked wall to wall in the crater's central lake — into an area small enough to properly cover in a single, unhurried day. It is one of Africa's most reliably dense wildlife-viewing experiences precisely because nothing in the crater migrates out.
Day 4 | Into the Serengeti
Climb back out of the crater and drive across the Ngorongoro Highlands' short-grass plains into the Serengeti's southern reaches, game-viewing along the way. The transition is dramatic: from the enclosed intensity of the crater to a landscape that keeps opening in every direction, with the season dictating whether you arrive to resident game or the leading edge of the migration itself.
Day 5 | Full Day Serengeti Game Drives
A full day split across morning and afternoon drives, tracking the Serengeti's resident lion prides and, depending on timing, the Great Migration's herds of wildebeest and zebra moving in their hundreds of thousands. Your guide reads the radio chatter from other Moseville vehicles across the park to chase the best sightings rather than sticking to a fixed loop.
Day 6 | Maasai Community Visit & Return to Arusha
A final morning game drive, followed by a guide-brokered visit to a local Maasai community — a genuine conversation and cultural exchange rather than a scripted stop, arranged through relationships our guides have built over repeated visits to the same families. Drive or fly back to Arusha in the afternoon.
Day 7 | Depart Arusha
Transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departing flight, with time built in for last-minute souvenir stops in Arusha if your flight timing allows.
